The Edmonton Chamber Music Society is pleased to announce its 12th Summer Solstice Music Festival, which begins with the second annual Chamber Music Workshop for Community Players from June 11–17, 2019.

Our Main Concerts begin on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 and feature the Canadian piano quartet Ensemble Made in Canada, French-Canadian pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin [Thu., June 20], and [Fri., June 21] clarinetist James Campbell, violinist Mark Fewer, and many other Canadian artists.

2019 Summer Solstice
Chamber Music Workshop for Community Players

Workshop: Tuesday, June 11 to Saturday, June 15, 2019
Performance: Monday, June 17, 2019

Participants in the 2019 Summer Solstice Chamber Music Workshop for Community Players will study and play chamber music together in a relaxed atmosphere conducive to learning. The workshop is designed to develop their performance skills while also enhancing their understanding and appreciation of the art of chamber music.

Coaches will be violist Ethan Filner (formerly with San Francisco’s Cypress String Quartet); violinist Ewald Cheung (graduate of McGill and Juilliard); pianist Patricia Tao (professor at the University of Alberta); and Rafael Hoekman, principal cellist of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

The workshop will take place for five days; June 11–15, 2019, ending with a performance on Monday, June 17, 2019.

Each group will receive daily two-hour coaching sessions. Coaching sessions will generally occur between 4:30-8:30 PM, although times can be flexible to meet participants' needs. Groups can opt for 5 instead of 10 hours of coaching.

*Cost for 10 hours of coaching:

  • $425 per person for duos and trios
  • $375 per person for quartets and quintets

*Cost for 5 hours of coaching:

  • $215 per person for duos and trios
  • $185 per person for quartets and quintets

*GST included
Musicians may apply as a formed group or as an individual. We will make every effort to fit individuals into groups based on their level of experience and playing.
